Wondering how to keep your pet comfortable during a flight? At British Vet Dubai, we offer essential tips for in-flight pet care. Firstly, ensure your pet is well-hydrated before the journey, but avoid feeding them right before the flight to prevent discomfort. Secondly, familiarise them with their carrier in advance, making it a comfortable space with familiar blankets or toys. These small steps can significantly improve their travel experience.

Fun Fact

Did you know? Cats have a unique "vocabulary" just for communicating with their human companions! While cats can make over 100 different vocal sounds, they often reserve specific meows, purrs, and even chirps for interacting with people. This means your cat might be "talking" to you in ways that are different from how they communicate with other cats!

Simple Steps for Maintaining Your Pet’s Dental Health at Home

Maintaining your pet's dental health at home is easier than you might think and can make a big difference in their overall well-being. Start by brushing your pet's teeth regularly using a pet-safe toothpaste and a soft-bristled toothbrush. Aim to do this at least a few times a week, and take it slow to help your pet get used to the process.

Providing dental chews is another effective way to reduce plaque and tartar buildup, while dental toys can naturally help maintain oral hygiene by massaging gums and removing food particles. A balanced diet also plays a crucial role in dental health, so consider incorporating dental-specific foods that promote cleaner teeth.

It's also important to regularly check your pet's mouth for any signs of dental issues, such as red gums, bad breath, or difficulty eating. Early detection of these signs can prevent more serious problems down the line. By combining regular home care with veterinary check-ups, you can help ensure your pet has a healthy smile for years to come.

Dr Gareth Enslin

BA MA Cantab VetMB M

Dr Gareth Enslin is a South African vet who qualified from the University of Pretoria, Onderstepoort in 2012. He worked as a mixed animal vet for 11 years so he is comfortable treating all animals except humans. "The best part of being a vet is the variety and chaos that can walk through the door any moment."

Gareth is lucky enough to be married to a vet (because vets make the best partners) and is always willing to talk about his two cats and his dog. When Gareth is not in scrubs, he enjoys playing golf, generally being outdoors, and watching sport, particularly rugby (Four Times Rugby World Champions!).

"The Best Veterinary Hospital In UAE! THANK YOU... It took me 21 months to be able to write this message. Throughout the past 11 years, I have been to so many vet clinics in Dubai and I have not seen the professionalism provided to our loved ones, not even close to what I have witnessed at British Veterinary Hospital. The amount of care, love and attention to details the clinic offers is amazing. They consider every little aspect for the comfort of our little beautiful souls while they are hospitalized or boarded while we are away on a trip."
